A third-degree heat alert has come into force, ordered by the chief medical officer from 12 midnight on Thursday until midnight on Tuesday. According to HungaroMet’s Thursday morning bulletin, the average temperature in a further three counties may exceed 27C.
Third-degree heat alert in Hungary again
HungaroMet’s warning shows that on Thursday the average temperature will climb above 27C in Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom, Veszprém, Fejér, Bács-Kiskun and Csongrád-Csanád counties, while elsewhere — except in Nógrád, Heves, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg — it is expected to top 25C, the Hungarian news agency wrote.
On Thursday, the average temperature will also exceed 27C in Vas, Tolna and Pest counties, HungaroMet said.
On Friday, the average is forecast to rise above 29C in Komárom-Esztergom, Fejér and Bács-Kiskun counties. In Nógrád, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties it will be above 25C, and elsewhere above 27C.
Hot weather remains
Prolonged high temperatures reduce both physical and mental performance, increase fatigue and the risk of accidents, and have an adverse effect on the course of cardiovascular, respiratory and kidney diseases. The most serious consequence of heat stress is heatstroke, a life-threatening condition; if someone feels unwell, they should be taken to a cool place immediately, their body should be cooled, and an ambulance called if necessary.

My condolences to everyone in Hungary on this weather. I can’t see how anyone can endure this without airconditioning. Europe really got hit bad by climate change. We had some forest fire smoke for about four days in Toronto but otherwise the weather for the past two years in southern Ontario has been completely normal with plenty of rain and snow. I avoid Hungary from the second week of June until September. Tourism seems to be shifting in Europe from summer to what previously was considered the shoulder season or off-season. In April I found Vienna to be packed with tourists with three hour wait times to see the Schonbrunn and Budapest was pretty busy too.
