Third richest Hungarian owes EUR 65k to an electrician

An electrician in Fejér County, Hungary, claims that the Záév subsidiary owned by Lőrinc Mészáros, the third richest Hungarian, owes HUF 24 million (around EUR 65,000) to him. He can even prove that he completed the works.
The man’s company worked on the renovation of Lőrinc Mészáros’ hotel. However, he claims he was not paid, even though he can prove that the work was done. The government has not answered whether it is acceptable for a subcontractor on a state-subsidised project not to be paid, RTL Híradó reports.
“By the third day we were there, we had to do work that was not in our contract,” the man whose company worked on the renovation of Mr Mészáros’s hotel, but was not paid, told RTL Híradó.
The man said that after the contract was signed, it became clear quite quickly that they would have more work than they had originally anticipated. Several times they had indicated that they needed to paper the changes, working in the knowledge that everything would be paid for. However, in the end, they were left unpaid.
They claim to have done a total of HUF 90 million worth of work, but only HUF 66 million was recognised by the company that contracted them.
Now lawyers are trying to resolve the situation.
