Top court annuls rulings banning publication of photos of police in action
Budapest, October 18 (MTI) – The Constitutional Court has thrown out earlier court decisions which banned publication of photos and video footage including portraits of police officers in action.
The courts have so far considered policemen as non-public figures, and stipulated that footage, in which they were recognisable, could only be made and published with their prior consent.
The Constitutional Court, however, said in its Tuesday ruling that such photos can be published if “publication serves the right of the public to free information”. Publication of pictures harming the human dignity of police, such as ones depicting the suffering of an injured officer, shall continue to be banned, the ruling said, however.
