Tragic! A Hungarian put into quarantine in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean committed suicide

His quarantine lasted for weeks on board of the Carnival Breeze, a British cruiser, but they were already heading back home towards England, so there was only a couple of days until he could have left the ship.

According to Index, the 29-year-old Hungarian man was working as a shore excursion assistant manager on board of the British cruiser. However, the ship was put into quarantine because of the coronavirus epidemic weeks ago near the Bahamas. Days ago, they were allowed to return to England with 1,300 other members of the crew.

His colleagues found only the dead body in his cabin

but said that there were no signs before the tragedy.

Carnival Corporation is among the world’s greatest ocean cruise companies, but members of their fleet had to remain on different parts of the world when the coronavirus epidemic broke out. Carnival Breeze was waiting for weeks near the Bahamas, but not long ago, they were allowed to move back to Southampton, England. Currently, they are near the Azores.

It seems that the 29-year-old man committed suicide; even the captain of the ship confirmed the sad news. His colleagues spoke with him last Wednesday for the last time, but they did not feel anything strange; it was only the “regular quarantine chat,” they said.

According to a member of the crew, “depression is striking hard to us on board after a long time in isolation on the ship.” He added that all the crew was shocked because of what happened.

According to a message crew-center.com received from a crew member, an announcement was made on board Carnival Breeze by the captain confirming the sad news. “People are in a bad mood which is normal but still we are trying to be positive and looking forward to go home. Also, they said that they informed the family which was the most important and the company is providing care for the crew through the hotline and on board with HRD as captain just said on PA,” says the crew member.

The loss of a friend and colleague is an extremely difficult experience, and we are all affected by this terrible tragedy especially knowing that the crew member was only days apart before reuniting with his family and loved ones,” they said.

József Sz. had been working on board of the ships of the company for years, and based on what his colleagues said, he was a good team player and a wonderful man.

Carnival Breeze, together with Carnival Magic, is on a mission to return the European crewmembers home. The two ships are currently sailing across the Atlantic Ocean and are scheduled to arrive in Europe in the following days to repatriate crew members.
