As is known, the former US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán are quite good friends. Trump expected his backed candidates to make a big impact in the mid-term elections, so he can announce he will run for president again in 2024 with a serious head start. However, that’s not what happened. Now, more and more Republicans are losing confidence and parting ways with him. The Orbán rhetoric doesn’t seem to have helped either. But what is the Orbán rhetoric? Read on to find out.
“America’s comeback starts right now”, announced former President Donald Trump on 15 November at his Florida estate, rtl.hu reports. The President had previously hinted that he was preparing a “big announcement” just days after the mid-term elections. All the signs were that he would announce his candidacy for the presidency, which he won in a surprise victory in 2016. In recent times, it seems that not only the American public, but also his own party, is turning against him.
The Orbán rhetoric
In his recent speech, Donald Trump touched on a number of topics that Viktor Orbán also likes to talk about. Whether it’s war, inflation or “globalists”, the former president and prime minister have once again shown that they agree on many things, rtl.hu writes.
See how much Trump’s recent words match Orban’s previous statements:
Trump: “I’ve gone decades, decades without a war. The first president to do it for that long a period.”
Orbán: “The hope for peace is former US President Donald Trump.”
Trump: “Our country is being invaded by millions and millions of unknown people.”
Orbán: “The invasion must be stopped, and stopping the invasion means strong border controls.”
Trump: “I have no doubt that by 2024, it will, sadly, be much worse, and they will see much more clearly what happened and what is happening to our country. And the voting will be much different. 2024. Are you getting ready?”
Orbán: “2024 will be decisive in the battle for Western civilisation.”
Trump: We will immediately tackle inflation and bring down to a level that it was, you know, we were at zero… But actually, the best number is one percent.”
Orbán: “I have asked the Governor of the Central Bank and instructed the Minister of Finance to at least halve this inflation by the end of next year, to at least be in single digits.”
Trump also claimed that if he were president, the war in Ukraine would never have happened. Earlier, Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister had said the same thing almost word for word on US television.
