US charge d’affaires meets Socialist leader
(MTI) – The charge d’affaires of the United States embassy in Budapest, Andre Goodfriend, met the Socialist Party’s leader on Monday to review the social and economic situation in Hungary, the Socialists told MTI.
“The two sides talked about the state of civil society and the democratic rule of law, as well as possibilities for standing up for universal human rights more effectively,” the Socialists said in a statement.
Jozsef Tobias said the Hungarian people support NATO and the European Union and he made it clear that the Socialist Party continues to pursue policies in a Euro-Atlantic direction and for a peaceful and developing Hungary. It regards properly upholding the interests of the civil sector as a highlighted goal, the statement added.
