Netflix broke records with its latest series titled Wednesday, a sequel to the Addams Family. The series quickly became a blockbuster in Hungary, while Jenna Ortega is now one of the world’s popular celebrities. However, the juvenile Wednesday was not portrayed by her, but a Hungarian girl. Below you may read the details.

The young Wednesday, appearing in the series for a couple of minutes, was portrayed by a Hungarian girl, Karina Váradi. Her mom, Nikolett Bandula, talked to Ripost about how her career started and how her young girl could play in one of the most popular Netflix series. Ripost writes that the young Hungarian girl astonishes everybody with her talent from her classmates to the director of the series.

“She adores this. Her dream is to become an actress in Hollywood, and I would support her in everything. I do everything for my girl to realise her dreams”, the proud mom told Ripost. She added that Karina liked to be in front of the cameras.

Karina during the shooting:

“I saw the advertisement on a social media site. We could register for modelling. I did it five years ago. There they said she was a talented superstar. We decided to sign a contract with the agency. We had to go on a boat trip where many agencies were present from several countries. She had to learn a text, walk on a runway and act out scenes. Finally, almost all agencies wanted to sign a contract”, Nikolett, Karina’s mother, said.

Nikolett had to make some difficult decisions about which agency to choose. For example, one of the agencies was in Canada, while the family was from Kazincbarcika, Hungary.

The “two Wednesdays”:

Finally, they chose a London-based agency. Last year, they received an email in which they wrote they searched for girls with long hair for the Addams Family. They made two videos at home. In the first, she had to play as if she was sad. In the second, she had pretend she was angry because her spider was murdered.

The director chose Karina. The movie was shot in Romania, and Karina enjoyed the work very much. She did not even want to go home to London. Nikolett said everybody was nice to her, and could get along with Karina.

Here is a video of Karina’s joy when she sees herself in the series:

Nikolett does not know whether Netflix would like Karina to portray Wednesday Addams in the next season. She moved to London ten years ago from Kazincbarcika, Hungary. Nikolett has been raising her child alone for a decade. She works in a local pizzeria, and her colleagues are very supportive. First, her school did not want Karina to miss classes, but after they learnt she would be in movies, they became flexible.

They were not happy because the school did not want her to worsen the school statistics, Nikolett said. Because of the shootings, Karina can miss 20 more days than other students. Furthermore, the production hires a teacher for her if the shootings last longer than two weeks. “Her classmates adore her”, Nikolett said.

She highlighted that apart from the movie making, Karina lived an ordinary life and had free time. However, she speaks English better than Hungarian. If she wants to tell a story at home, she prefers to use English.
