Volkswagen brand hits 250,000 sales of electric vehicles
The Volkswagen brand passed the mark of 250,000 delivered electric vehicles since the introduction of the e-up! in 2013, the German carmaker announced on Friday.
In 2019, the Volkswagen brand had delivered more than 70,000 electric vehicles, following 50,000 units sold last year.
According to the carmaker, the main sales markets for electric vehicles in 2019 had been China, Norway, Germany, the United States and Britain. Battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles each accounted for about half of the total sales figure for electric vehicles.
The best-selling electric models of the Volkswagen car fleet are the e-Golf, with 104,000 units, followed by the Golf GTE, the Passat Variant GTE and the e-up!, it said.
Also on Friday the Volkswagen AG said that it is ahead of schedule in producing electric cars and announced new overall plan to produce 1.5 million electric cars by 2025.
The previous strategic target of one million electric cars is expected to be reached by the end of 2023 — two years earlier than anticipated, it said.
