Washington welcomes Hungary to G8 global partnership
(MTI) – The United States Department of State has congratulated Hungary for becoming a member of the Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction.
“Hungary’s membership marks a welcome addition to the global partnership which addresses through the funding and coordination of cooperative projects nuclear and radiological security, biosecurity, chemical security, and scientist engagement; and facilitates the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1540,” the Department of State said in a statement published on its website.
A spokesman for Hungary’s Foreign Ministry said the country was actively taking steps against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Gabor Kaleta said Hungary joined the partnership at the end of November.
Hungary has become the 27th member of the partnership.
