A cold front is expected to move across Hungary on Sunday, bringing a temporary change in the weather, particularly in the country’s northeastern regions.
Warning issued in several Hungarian counties
While much of Hungary will continue to enjoy warm summer conditions, thunderstorms, gusty winds and localised heavy cloud cover are forecast in several counties.
Hungary’s national weather service, HungaroMet, has issued a first-level (yellow) warning for Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Heves, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Hajdú-Bihar counties. The main hazard will be lightning, although isolated thunderstorms may also produce strong wind gusts and small hail.
During Sunday, thicker cloud cover will spread southwards from the north, with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing mainly across northeastern Hungary. Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mostly sunny and dry, with temperatures reaching 26–31°C.
Hungary’s northeastern region will have a rougher time
In the northeast, daytime highs will be noticeably cooler, ranging between 21°C and 26°C. Across much of the country, northwesterly winds will become lively, with stronger gusts possible, especially near thunderstorms.
The weather will improve overnight as skies become mostly clear, with minimum temperatures generally between 13°C and 18°C, although sheltered areas could be a few degrees cooler.

Next week will start much brighter
Monday is forecast to bring plenty of sunshine with scattered fair-weather clouds. Only isolated light showers are possible in the northeast, while northerly winds will remain brisk in some areas. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb to 28–33°C, though northeastern regions may remain slightly cooler.
Looking ahead, the brief cooling is unlikely to last. Forecasts suggest hot, mostly dry summer weather will return during the week, with daytime temperatures rising back to 33–36°C and little chance of widespread rainfall.
