Warning: Cold snap to bring frost before early summer warmth arrives for long weekend in Hungary

Change language:
Hungary is set for a sharp midweek chill with morning frosts before a dramatic warm-up brings early summer temperatures just in time for the long weekend.
A cold front moved across the country on Sunday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures and stronger winds, although much-needed rainfall largely failed to materialise.
According to forecasts, Monday and Tuesday will remain mostly dry and sunny, with daytime highs of around 16–22°C. However, cloud cover is expected to increase from the south-west by Tuesday evening, with winds picking up, according to 24.hu.
Midweek chill with possible frost
Another cold front is set to arrive on Wednesday, bringing stronger winds and further cooling.
Daytime temperatures are expected to reach only 12–18°C, while rainfall will remain limited, mainly affecting parts of western and south-western Hungary.
The coldest period will come on Thursday and Friday, when early morning temperatures could drop below freezing in several areas, potentially reaching as low as -2 to -5°C.
Daytime highs will also remain below average, generally around 12–17°C.
Gradual improvement towards Labour Day
From Friday, conditions are expected to stabilise, with more sunshine and dry weather returning.
Although nights may remain chilly, daytime temperatures will begin to recover, reaching around 14–19°C by the start of the long weekend that starts on Labour Day, 1 May.
Early summer weather on the horizon
A significant change is forecast for Saturday, as south-westerly airflow brings warmer air into the region.
Temperatures are expected to climb to 18–23°C over the weekend, with further warming into next week.
Forecasters say early summer conditions could arrive, with temperatures exceeding 25°C and even approaching 30°C in some areas.
Dry conditions remain a concern
Despite the changing temperatures, precipitation is expected to remain scarce throughout the period, continuing concerns over dry conditions.
