The Hungarian Meteorological Service has kept in effect the nationwide heat alert and issued a storm alert for the west of the country on Friday.

Median temperatures are expected to be above 25 C countrywide, reaching 27 C in the northern Great Plain area.

Temperatures will start falling in the southwest of the country over the weekend.

Maximum temperatures will be between 31 and 36 degrees, cooling down to between 23 and 28 in the evening.

The weather service has issued a storm alert for western Hungary, saying that heavy thunderstorms are to be expected from Friday afternoon.
