Summer arrives with a bang in Hungary as temperatures climb above 30°C early next week. But don’t put away your umbrella just yet: thunderstorms, strong winds and a cold front are set to bring a noticeable cooldown by Thursday. Here’s what to expect day by day.
Hungary to start the week with summer heat before storms and cooler weather arrive
Hungary is set for a dramatic shift in weather conditions next week, with temperatures soaring above 30°C before a cold front sweeps across the country, bringing rain, thunderstorms and significantly cooler air.
According to the latest forecast from HungaroMet, the week will begin with genuinely summer-like conditions, with daytime highs reaching between 27°C and 33°C in many areas. However, the warm spell will be interrupted by an approaching cold front expected to reach the country during the second half of the week.
While the weekend should see a return to mostly sunny and dry weather, temperatures are expected to remain noticeably lower than the midweek peak.
Monday and Tuesday: sunshine and temperatures above 30°C
The week starts on a pleasant note, with abundant sunshine and only scattered high clouds expected across most of Hungary on Monday. Although isolated showers or thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, most regions will remain dry.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 27°C and 31°C.
Tuesday will remain very warm, with highs climbing to between 27°C and 32°C. Sunshine will continue, although increasing cloud cover is expected, particularly in western and north-western Hungary. During the afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop in these regions.
Southerly winds will strengthen throughout the day before turning north-westerly in Transdanubia later in the afternoon. Thunderstorms could also bring strong or even gale-force wind gusts.
Wednesday could be the hottest day of the week
Wednesday is expected to be the warmest day for many parts of the country. Temperatures may reach as high as 33°C, especially in central and eastern regions.
Cloud cover will increase, particularly in northern and north-western Hungary, while sunshine elsewhere will encourage the development of towering cumulus clouds. Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible throughout the day.
A brisk northerly wind is expected, becoming strong in some areas. Despite the approaching weather system, temperatures will still range between 26°C and 33°C, although western regions may already experience somewhat cooler conditions.

Cold front brings rain, thunderstorms and a noticeable drop in temperature
The biggest weather change is expected on Thursday, when a cold front moves across Hungary.
Thicker cloud cover will spread over the country, accompanied by widespread rainfall, showers and thunderstorms. Precipitation is most likely during the night and early morning hours, although unsettled conditions may continue into the day before gradually easing from the west.
Strong northerly winds are forecast across many regions, with some areas potentially experiencing storm-force gusts.
The arrival of cooler air will bring daytime temperatures down considerably, with highs expected to reach only 22°C to 27°C — several degrees lower than earlier in the week.
Sunny weather returns for the weekend
After Thursday’s unsettled conditions, the weather is expected to improve.
Friday should bring plenty of sunshine with only a small chance of rainfall. Morning temperatures may fall to between 6°C and 13°C, making it feel considerably fresher than at the start of the week. Afternoon highs will range from 23°C to 28°C.
Saturday is forecast to be mostly sunny, although isolated showers or thunderstorms may still occur. Temperatures are expected to climb to between 23°C and 30°C.
Sunday will continue the trend of mixed sunshine and clouds, with occasional showers possible in some locations. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain moderate, generally between 22°C and 27°C.
