Springtime is here already, bringing us sunshine, pleasant temperatures, and dozens of opportunities to enjoy our free time outdoors. Thus, we have collected 5 beautiful excursion destinations in Hungary worth visiting in the upcoming months.

Normafa

Budapest’s green oasis on the Buda side is among the most popular excursion destinations in the Hungarian capital. Normafa Park offers a wide range of outdoor activities all year long. Visitors can try several hiking trails, a running track, a street workout park, and a well-equipped playground for the little ones.

At the end of our exciting tour, we should stop and rest at the Elizabeth Lookout Tower, also known as the jewel of Normafa Park. The lookout tower is named after Queen Elizabeth, ‘Sissi’, who visited the mountain in 1882. Her visit was commemorated with a memorial stone which can still be found at the foot of the lookout tower.

Visegrád

Another exciting excursion destination in Hungary is Visegrád, also known as the most outstanding city in Europe. Despite its small size, the legendary town hides several exciting stories and attractions. Located in the heart of the Danube Bend, the settlement is the perfect destination during springtime as it is not far from the capital.

Szalajka Valley

Hungary’s most beautiful high mountain valleys can be found in the Bükk Mountains. Here, a must-see attraction is

the Veil Waterfall, which is one of the most spectacular natural treasures in Hungary.

The limestone tuff deposited from the water of the streams of the karst springs has formed a step-like formation, thanks to which the clear water that flows along in a veil offers a breathtaking view.

Rám Gorge

The gorge is of volcanic origin. Its depth exceeds 35 metres, while in some places, its width does not even reach 3 metres. The water in the rock ledge is constantly bubbling, swelling into a stream during snowmelt and heavy rains. In the gorge, between the narrow walls, a total level difference of 112 metres must be overcome by hikers climbing upwards.

Therefore, Rám Gorge is considered to be one of the most difficult hiking trails in Hungary.

However, there are ladders and handrails to help hikers, ensuring their safety. As the valley narrows, the unique, water-washed rock walls and magnificent waterfalls of Rám Gorge unfold before us. Going upwards, you immediately get consumed by the unique atmosphere of the gorge valley.

The Sea Eye of Megyer Hill

The Sea Eye of Megyer Hill is a popular place for hiking and trekking near Sárospatak. The rock walls rise 70 metres above the surface of the water, resulting in a breathtaking geological attraction. The special landscape was shaped by human hands; a mine operated here from the 15th century, and later on, the mine yard was filled with rainwater.

The trekking trail starts from the centre of Sárospatak and ends at the top of Megyer Hill where a wooden lookout tower offers a great view of Sárospatak.
