Windy weather crushed the ice on Lake Balaton – Beautiful VIDEOS
Last week we wrote that due to the freezing cold weather reaching Hungary, the popular Summer and Winter destination Lake Balaton could freeze to ice.
Since then the weather have changed and the freezing temperatures were replaced by squally weather and according to Hellovidék, wind velocity was monitored to reach speeds of 100 km/h in Hungary.
Near Balaton, the strongest gusts of wind were only 70-80 km/h, but it was strong enough to move the water of Balaton and break the thin layer of ice covering the tourist destination.
Since the wind kept on blowing, the waves it formed carried the bits of ice to the banks of the lake.
Időkép, a Hungarian weather forecast portal, thanks to their cameras and stations installed, have recorded the entire process of the ice melting on Lake Balaton.
Meanwhile, the Hungarian Meteorological Service also recorded a video of how the wind carried the tiny ice pieces to the bank of the lake.
In this video Lake Balaton looks like a giant, turbulent slushee.
