Wizz Air revives regional base near Hungary, relocates aircraft, launches new routes

The Hungary-based low-cost airline has decided to reopen its base at Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), introducing a new Airbus A320neo aircraft and launching ten routes from this Transylvanian city, home to tens of thousands of Hungarians. Wizz Air appears determined to continue its expansion in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

According to wizzair.com, Wizz Air is Romania’s largest airline, operating 39 aircraft across the country during winter. The new Marosvásárhely base will offer passengers nine routes to eight countries. Budget-friendly flights will depart from the city’s “Transylvania” International Airport, with ticket prices starting from just RON 79 (€15.50).
Marosvásárhely’s airport, located in the heart of Transylvania, holds special significance as the first Romanian airport from which Wizz Air operated. The inaugural flight took off in 2006, and now the airline is poised to reopen this base by relocating an aircraft.
