The Japanese surprisingly beat top seed Flavia Pennetta, who recently won Indian Wells tournament.
Babos said: “I am very happy that I could break the ice. We worked a lot with Thomas every day, and I feel like I am getting better. Obviously, it is hard to go to the court after all those lost matches and to believe in myself, but I will do everything to perform better.”
According to sportgeza.hu, the second match was today morning. This time, it was a double. Babos and her partner, the Belorussian Olga Govortsova, were top seed. They defeated the Kristina Mladenovic, Alexandra Panova French-Russian duo in 1 hour and 24 minutes. Their next opponent will be Asia Muhammad and Allie Will from the United Sates.
Babos told after the match that although this was the toughest first round game in the tournament, she really enjoyed playing and is very happy.
Sportgeza.hu said, the Hungarian player won Monterrey Open two times. In 2012, she won it in single, while last year, she succeeded in double. Interestingly, that time her partner was Date-Krumm Kimiko.
