The Republic of Zambia on Thursday reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara, while endorsing Morocco’s autonomy proposal as the basis for resolving the regional dispute.
The position was outlined in a joint communiqué issued in Rabat following talks between Nasser Bourita and Mulambo Haimbe, who is currently visiting Morocco on a working trip.
Zambia also welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797 on Oct. 31, 2025, which describes Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the framework for a political solution under Moroccan sovereignty.
According to the communiqué, Haimbe expressed support for ongoing United Nations efforts to resolve the dispute and described Morocco’s autonomy plan as “the only credible, serious and realistic solution” to the issue.
He added that the initiative offers a pragmatic and constructive foundation for achieving a lasting and mutually acceptable political settlement.
Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Mulambo Haimbe commended on Thursday the strategic initiatives launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of regional integration and development in Africa, highlighting in particular the importance of the Initiative of the Atlantic African States as well as the Royal Initiative for the Sahel.
