Zoltán Szélesi appointed acting national coach in Hungary
The Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) has appointed Zoltán Szélesi acting coach for the last two matches the national eleven is scheduled to play this year.
Over the past two years Szélesi, 35, has been assistant to his predecessor, Bernd Storck, who quit his post on October 17 after the team’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Championship. As we wrote on Wednesday, Hungary’s head coach since the summer of 2015, Storck, has left his post with immediate effect after a rollercoaster two years in charge of the men’s national team. His assistant Andreas Möller leaves with him but his other countrymen in the national-team set-up will remain in their positions.
As a player, Szélesi spent his professional career in Hungarian, German, French, Dutch and Greek clubs. He was capped 28 times.
The national eleven will face Luxembourg in an away match on November 10 and Costa Rica on home ground on November 14.
