The Hungarian Meteorological Service said that there would be as cold in Hungary in the next few days as never before. Therefore, they expect record-breaking regarding the minimum temperature. Though the weather was spring-like between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, it seems that January will be cold in Hungary. We already experienced that change last week when the temperature fell below -10 Celsius degrees. However, meteorologists say that this week will be much colder.
-20 Celsius degrees to come
According to napi.hu, on Tuesday, the lows were between -5 and -12 °C. However, in regions protected from winds and frost pockets, the temperature could go even below -15 °C.
On Wednesday, meteorologists expect a slightly cloudy sky and a dry, sunny day. In the evening, clouds may appear in the northern and northeastern regions of the country. Snowdrifts should be expected East of the River Tisza (Tiszántúl), and strong winds will rule the day. Winds are to decline by evening. The highs will come between -3 and +3 °C in the daytime. In the Tiszántúl, especially in regions covered by snow, the mercury might go even lower.
Thursday will be sunny. But, in the morning, there will be fog. There will be no precipitation, but there will be strong winds. The minimums will be between -4 and -13 °C.
In the regions covered by snow, there will be much colder: the mercury level might go below -20 Celsius degrees.
The highs will be between +1 and +6 °C, but only between -5 and 0 in the northeastern regions.
The weekend will be warmer
On Friday, the weather will be sunny but foggy. There will be no considerable precipitation, but snowdrifts are expected in most parts of the country. At dawn, the temperature will be between -6 and 0 Celsius degrees. However, as before, in frost pockets, these numbers will be lower. The highs will be between 4 and 10 Celsius degrees, but only -3 and 0 in the regions covered in snow.
Based on idokep.hu,
