Doughnut is an all-time favorite dessert (or snack!) for many of us. Now that Farsang (Carnival season) is on the corner, finding the best doughnut in town becomes even more relevant. Check out our list of the most special doughnut shops in Budapest!

Funzine compiled a list we never knew we needed. Let’s see the places that made it to this list.

As we can read on this wonderfully named doughnut shop’s Facebook page, La Donuteria is one of the fastest-growing lovebrand franchises in the world. In 2021, they opened new shops in 14 countries – thankfully, one of them was Hungary. La Donuteria awaits its guests with exclusive, handmade doughnut specialities and delicious coffee brews. Their doughnuts are always made on the spot, hence the mouth-watering freshness. What is more, there are no artificial or other additives used in the baking process. Definitely worth a shot!

What is interesting about this place is that “only” four types of traditionally filled and glazed homemade doughnuts are available every week. Instead of putting too many toppings on their doughnuts, Badass impresses customers with exciting flavor combinations. Since they are inspired by international cuisine, sweet and savoury combinations are also on offer. Yes, that is pretzel on some of them in the first picture!

The Box Donut

The popularity of this place can be explained with two things: their square-shaped doughnuts and the fact that they bake their doughnut dough in 100% peanut oil, thanks to which these delicious pastries have low-fat content. Their toppings are prepared in-house or carefully selected to create exciting seasonal flavour combinations, which have resulted in nearly 160 creations over the years.

If you are hungry for some homemade doughnuts (and maybe even some other pastries), Bomboloni is a perfect choice. In this doughnut shop, you can taste Szabolcs Szabadfi’s flower doughnuts, with surprising specialties alongside the classic flavors. They are also preparing for the carnival season: the selection is enriched with dipped doughnuts.

Láng Fánk

Láng Fánk is the perfect place to try if you prefer vegan, gluten- and/or milk-free pastries. What is more, apart from doughnuts, they sell lángos (Hungarian deep-fried flatbread) as well! However, since they are not a shop in one specific location but rather a “doughnut truck”, we can always learn their next destination from their Facebook page (starting from February this year).

Is it really too much to expect the addresses of these shops to be published? Or even a location ie such and such a district on (whatever) street?

We have provided the link for every establishment in the article.

Fair enough except for the one providing a Facebook link. Many of us refuse to use Facebook for a number of very valid reasons.

It would be great if the donuts themselves were light and airy at these places. Toppings are great. Decorations, too. But unfortunately, all these donuts are heavy and more like cake, rather than pillowy soft as a real donut should be. I used to like Mrs. Bagel and Mr. Fank donuts and The Donut Library. They came close. But now these places no longer exist.
