After years of setbacks, construction delays and rising costs, the long-awaited Tiszaliget Adventure Spa in Szolnok has finally opened its doors to visitors. The modern leisure complex welcomed its first guests on Friday, just as Hungary entered one of the hottest weekends of the year.

Seven-year wait comes to an end

The reopening marks the end of a lengthy project that began seven years ago, according to Turizmus.com. The renovation and redevelopment of the spa were repeatedly delayed due to construction problems and rising costs linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Szolnok Mayor Györfi Mihály described the launch as the fulfilment of a long-standing promise to the city’s residents.

“Today, Szolnok finally has a modern adventure spa that serves all age groups,” the mayor said in a Facebook post. He added that city leaders are open to feedback from visitors to ensure the facility provides a high-quality experience for both locals and tourists.

Györfi also thanked everyone who worked on the project despite the numerous difficulties encountered over the years.

Significant discount for local residents

One of the most notable features of the new pricing system is a substantial discount for residents of Szolnok.

According to the mayor, locals with a registered address in the city are entitled to a 28% discount on daily admission tickets, which he described as one of the largest local-resident discounts offered by a Hungarian spa. As a result, adult residents can enter the facility for HUF 4,300.

The discount is intended to ensure that the long-awaited investment primarily benefits the people of Szolnok while also attracting visitors from across Hungary.

Opening weekend packed with attractions

The official opening weekend coincides with a nationwide heatwave, making the new attraction particularly appealing for families and holidaymakers seeking relief from temperatures approaching 40°C. According to the spa’s programme, visitors can enjoy live music, party-themed entertainment, special bubble attractions and a range of adventure pool experiences throughout the opening celebrations.

The newly opened complex aims to become one of the region’s leading leisure destinations, offering facilities for children, families and adults alike.

Opening arrives during heatwave

The timing could hardly be better. Hungary is currently experiencing its first major heatwave of the summer, with temperatures reaching up to 38°C in some parts of the country and remaining exceptionally high throughout the weekend.
