Fidesz suspects broad left-wing involvement in Czeglédy corruption case
Governing Fidesz believes the corruption case of Csaba Czeglédy, who earlier represented Éljen Szombathely-Socialists-DK-Együtt on the Szombathely city council and ran a temporary staffing company, could involve the entire left wing of Hungarian politics, a spokesman for Fidesz’s parliamentary group said on Sunday.
János Halász noted that, according to press reports, youth who worked in the left-wing politician’s student cooperative were required to hand out political flyers and collect signatures at stands during the 2014 election campaign.
These students were used in an “unscrupulous” manner not only in a material sense but in a political sense as well,
he said. This matter is not just about cheating students out of their pay and billions of forints in VAT fraud, but may also be about political connections, he added.
Fidesz calls on DK leader Ferenc Gyurcsány, the Socialists and Együtt to disclose whose financial and political gain Czeglédy’s “criminal organisation” served, Halász said.
Czeglédy is currently in pre-trial detention.
