Socialists for preserving voting rights of ethnic Hungarians abroad

The opposition Socialists believe that voting rights granted to ethnic Hungarians abroad is an achievement that must be preserved and should not be withdrawn “as some opposition parties” proposed, party leader Gyula Molnár said in Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár) on Friday. 

Molnar and Socialist-Párbeszéd PM candidate Gergely Karácsony participated at a public forum in the Transylvanian city.

Voting should be made simpler for all Hungarians living abroad in the long term and the Socialists support the autonomy efforts of ethnic Hungarians, including cultural and territorial autonomy, Molnár said.

“We will hopefully speak about all forms of autonomy,” he added.

In response to a question by public channel M1 about a local party board member in Pécs, southern Hungary, who published on Facebook a picture depicting Prime Minister Viktor Orbán shot in the head Molnar said the party dissociated from it and did not consider it correct. At the same time, the responsibility lies among those “that generated such atmosphere in the first place,” he added.
