Nine die in Romanian van crash in Central Hungary
Nine people died in a van with Romanian licence plates after it collided with a lorry on road 4 near Ceglédbercel in central Hungary on Tuesday afternoon, a spokesman of Pest County Police said.
The van crashed with a lorry transporting sand. The lorry driver suffered light injuries, Tamás András said.
The victims included seven men and two women, who are just being identified with the involvement of the Romanian authorities.
Romanian news channel Digi 24 reported earlier that seven Romanian citizens died in the accident.
Citing information from Hungarian police, the Romanian foreign ministry said that the accident was caused by the van which was overtaking another vehicle at high speed when it frontally crashed with the lorry.
