Foreign minister: Hungary considers Israel strategic partner
Hungary continues to view Israel as a strategic partner, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said at talks with World Jewish Congress Executive Vice-President and CEO Robert Singer on Friday.
In a statement, the foreign ministry quoted Szijjártó as saying at the talks that Hungarian-Israeli relations have never been as good as they are now.
“We have declared zero tolerance for anti-Semitism in Hungary,” Szijjártó said.
Ensuring that the international community applies a balanced approach to Israel is among the most important goals of Hungary’s foreign policy, the minister told Singer.
Budapest is home to central Europe’s largest Jewish community, Szijjártó said, adding that the Hungarian government would continue to do everything it can to make sure that Europe preserves its Judeo-Christian heritage.
