LMP: Orbán working to provoke Hungary’s exit from EU
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wants to prepare the ground for Hungary’s exit from the European Union by stripping the judiciary of its independence, green opposition lawmaker Ákos Hadházy said on Monday.
Orbán dreads the EU prosecutor’s office and being held accountable there, which is the reason he dares to “attack the judiciary”; he wants to provoke Hungary’s exit from the EU in order to avoid having to go before the EU prosecutor’s office, Hadházy told a press conference.
Law courts are the last bastions of the fight against corruption and political abuse, he said.
Protecting them is equal to protecting EU membership and the fight against corruption, he added.
Setting up administetive courts could be professionally justified but the purpose of the government is not to serve professional considerations but to strip the courts of their independence, Hadházy insisted.
