According to CNN Travel, Budapest is becoming more and more important for the film production industry. For example, it provided a backdrop for such big-budget blockbusters like Blade Runner 2049, Red Sparrow, Inferno, Spy, or Evita. Furthermore, there are Atomic Blonde, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and there’s even more to come. Thus, they collected ten famous places where film makers like to shoot.
Budapest is on the map of the American film industry
According to CNN Travel, the ten most beautiful movie locations in the Hungarian capital are:
- Gellért Hotel and Baths: Elisabeth Taylor, Richard Burton: Bluebeard (1972); Madonna: Evita (1996) and Eddie Murphy, Owen Wilson: I Spy (2002).
- Four Seasons Hotel Gresham: Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law: Spy (2015)

Low taxes, profitable business
According to cnn.com, ‘Hollywood stars including Angelina Jolie, Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Jennifer Lawrence have all made this destination home while shooting in the area. New releases Colette, The Spy Who Dumped Me, The Terror and Robin Hood, have brought even more big names to Budapest in recent months.’
They highlighted that thanks to the investments of the Hungarian National Film Fund,
Hungary’s film industry became one of the most influential in Europe.
According to CNN, the Hungarian-born film producer behind Rambo and Terminator, Andy Vajna helped the country breaking into the modern movie business. Vajna is now the government’s film industry commissioner.
Award-winning productions
“We created an attractive tax incentive scheme for the productions” – told Vajna to CNN. He added that “Hungary and Budapest offer great locations and a well-equipped infrastructure for film productions.”
Furthermore, he told that they not only help shooting big budget films throughout Hungary and Budapest. They are also
building their very own flourishing film industry.
Thus, it is not surprising that the Son of Saul became an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning production while On Body and Soul received Golden Bear.
