Increased police presence in Budapest to ease the public mood
The increased police presence is necessary so people can feel safe – György Bakondi, chief security policy advisor to the Prime Minister, emphasized during an evening show on M1. Bakondi also confirmed that policemen and soldiers now can use live ammunition, writes nol.hu.
The chief advisor recalled that after last Friday’s terror attacks many countries have tightened their security to protect its people, just as the Hungarian government did. What’s visible is the increased presence of police officers in airports, train stations, bus stations, and busy underpasses.
What remains hidden from the public eye is that secret services and security bodies are working together on an international scale. The Hungarian services are part of this cooperation, which aims to unravel the truth behind the attacks by intensively interchanging information internationally. Secret services also seek information to be better prepared for future attacks, the chief advisor highlighted.
Bakondi said that many people asked since Saturday if “certain Syrian people” have passed through Hungary; they answer these questions as soon as possible. The advisor also emphasized what PM Viktor Orbán has said earlier: Hungary supports the French authorities to the furthest extent possible.
