Poll – Fidesz raises lead slightly over opposition in January

Budapest, January 27 (MTI) – Fidesz increased its lead slightly over all the opposition parties combined in the past quarter, a poll by Tarki revealed on Wednesday.

Fidesz had 31 percent support in January, up from 28 percent in October on the whole sample. The radical nationalist Jobbik party came in second, racking up 12 percent support in January, after 13 percent last October. The poll put the Socialists on 7 percent both months, the leftist opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) on 3 percent each time, and Dialogue for Hungary (PM) on 1 percent both in October and January. Opposition LMP had 2 percent, Egyutt 2 percent in January, up from 1 percent in October. The proportion of voters uncertain to vote or declining to answer was at 42 percent on the whole sample, down from 45 percent in October, the poll said.

Among decided voters Fidesz stood on 54 percent in January, up from 51 percent last autumn, while Jobbik’s support grew from 20 percent to 23 percent in the same voter group. The Socialists shed 2 points to 12 percent and other parties were unchanged with DK on 6 percent, PM on 1 percent and LMP 4 percent. Egyutt raised its 1 percent support in October to 3 percent in January among decided voters.

The poll was taken from January 15 to 20 on a sample of 1,001 adults.
