The first Chinese university with a Hungarian campus ranked as the world’s 34th best university

According to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, Fudan University, one of China’s most prestigious higher education institutions, jumped ahead six places compared to last year and ranked as the world’s 34th university. The institution was founded in 1905 shortly before the end of China’s imperial Qing dynasty, and it was the first Chinese university to establish a foreign campus in Eastern Europe. The first double-degree training program jointly organised by Fudan University and the Corvinus University of Budapest was launched in 2019 with the professional support of the Central Bank of Hungary.

The London-based Quacquarelli Symonds company has been evaluating higher education institutions since 2004. The QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings, and it is based on the following criteria: faculty/student ratio, number of international students and faculty, employer reputation, academic reputation, and the citation frequency of academic works connected to the institution.

After the improvement of six places compared to last year,

Fudan University is currently the 34th best higher education institution on Quacquarelli Symonds’s list. The university’s innovative co-operation with the Central Bank of Hungary and the Budapest Corvinus University also contributed to this success: in 2019, they launched the Fudan-Corvinus Double Degree MBA Program in Budapest.

The target group of the program includes public organisations, corporations, and employees of the financial sector who are interested in Chinese culture, economy, and educational methods. This year, 35 students attended the program’s courses in the building of Bölcs Vár (House of Wisdom), and applications are already open for the third year, starting in autumn 2020, Infostart reported.

The institution has successfully transitioned to distance education during the coronavirus pandemic and managed to ensure students’ involvement in online learning using innovative solutions.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was ranked the world’s leading university for the ninth consecutive year. Stanford University took 2nd place, followed by Harvard University and California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The University of Oxford ranked 5th. The top 10 also include the ETH Zurich-Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, the University of Chicago, and University College London.
