Foreign minister: Child protection law doesn’t conflate pedophilia and homosexuality
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has told CNN that reports that Hungary’s child protection law conflated pedophilia and homosexuality were “fake news”.
Asked about strict punishments for paedophilia appearing in the same law as provisions concerning the education of children with regard to their sexual orientation, Szijjártó told CNN the provisions were “two completely separate” parts of the law and were isolated from one another.
Educating children about sexual orientation was the sole right of the parent, he said, adding that the government’s aim was to prevent LGBTQ activists from promoting any particular sexual orientation in kindergartens and schools.
The minister said Hungary’s constitution prohibited all forms of discrimination and no one in Hungary had cause to be afraid because of their sexual orientation.
Put to him that an Ipsos survey in May found that 56 percent of Hungarians thought that same-sex couples should have the same rights to adoption as heterosexuals, Szijjártó said Hungary’s fundamental law stated this clearly.
Szijjártó also noted that the child protection law was adopted not only with ruling party votes but also with the support of the largest opposition party, Jobbik.
He said the assertion that Hungary’s ruling parties were the only forces behind the law was “neither true nor fair”.
The minister also insisted that the law was purely about the protection of children and was unconnected to the 2022 general election.

Interesting.
Watched live the interview – nervous rather indecisive uncertain without total conviction in response style to questions asked – is the political style – the individual, who currently is the Foreign Minister – Peter Szijjarto – of the Hungarian Government.
Hungary – this interview could WIDEN the Global microscope – that is on us at this present time.
We could be in for heavier bombardment – attack and Criticism – bought on by this “unconvincing” interview – by Foreign Minister – Peter Szijjarto.
Szijjarto – is a “finely” tuned and oiled – comrade of the Fidesz Party.
Szijjarto – is a “favored” minister – thought by the “inner sanctum” comrades to be “heir apparent” to our present Prime Minister – Victor Orban.
If he gets the gig – will it be that Victor Orban gets defeated at the National Elections May 2022 and retires from Political Life ?
Does he get the leaders role of Fidesz because through victory at the upcoming National Elections – Victor Orban establishes AGAIN – placing himself on the Throne as – King Victor of Hungary ?
Mass huf being spent as we speak at Buda Palace – on renovations and upgrades ///
NEVER say NEVER – especially in the current Political arena and Landscape of Politics in Hungary.
Surely if a child is brought up in a loving family environment then it shouldn’t matter the family circumstances. I can’t think being left in an orphanage until a heterosexual couple decide to adopt will benefit any child. The government has said that couples who have more than four children will reap the rewards financially. Has this actually started or is it purely part of the election campaign. It’s inevitable this won’t be sustained and some of these poor children may themselves end up in orphanages. The paedophilia law is completely different. People can’t link the two together. It’s also what goes on behind closed doors now in any family regardless of their sexual orientation. Outside the family, paedophiles get themselves into positions of trust and groom their prey.
QUESTION : Is “Norbert” a Hungarian citizen – entitled to vote at next year’s general elections in Hungary – or just a (paid) ‘trouble-maker’ (possibly for some N.G.O. or similar dissident organisation) who makes it his business to ‘stick his nose’ into other peoples’ business ?
His IMMEDIATE response would be appreciated by all readers of “DAILY NEWS HUNGARY” who are continually being subjected to his rambling pontifications.
Imagine if bold-faced lies like this happened in the past:
“Mr Gorbachev tear down this wall”
“Wall? What wall? I don’t see a wall, you are spreading fake news!”
“So can I walk into West Berlin from East?”
“Yes, of course”
*gets shot
“Wow, poor man fell on a bullet. Tragic!”
NotOrban, you are so right about it. I firmly believe that Orbanism is very much like Eastern Europe Communism with a different name. Way too many similarities.
The minister said Hungary’s constitution prohibited all forms of discrimination and no one in Hungary had cause to be afraid because of their sexual orientation. Another big lie.
