Search for lost Hungarian man in the Grand Canyon turns up unexpected results

A Hungarian man aged 45 called Gábor Bérczi-Tomcsányi disappeared in the Grand Canyon this summer. Aerial search for him, however, led to the remains of another man.

“As of 2021, there have been about 900 deaths in the Grand Canyon. The leading cause of death is aeroplane and helicopter crashes, followed by falling from cliffs, environmental deaths (such as overheating), and drowning. On average, about 11 people die per year in the Grand Canyon,” writes Wereintherockies.

As Daily News Hungary reported before, a Hungarian man went missing in the Grand Canyon, Arizona state. His family reported his disappearance to the Las Vegas police on July 29.  His car was found on August 9 at a visitor’s centre on the South Rim. His belongings were left inside the car.

In an aerial search for the Hungarian man, another person was found not far away from him. 

The American man disappeared in 2015, and he was last seen stepping off a shuttle bus at the park’s South Rim, wrote Nbcnews. He is believed to be Scott Walsh, based on the documents found in his backpack.

HVG writes that Walsh was 56 years old. His clothes blended in with the surroundings, and his body was almost undetectable. He was not reported missing, and the last address he had was in Ecuador. However, he was originally from Brooklyn, New York.
