One of Hungary’s biggest universities cannot transfer the scholarships! – UPDATED

Change language:

For reasons beyond their control, ELTE has not yet been able to transfer their students’ scholarships.

As 24.hu reported, on 6 January, ELTE students were notified that the university’s bank, the Hungarian State Treasury (henceforth: HST), introduced a new IT system this January.

The new system

However, according to HST, this new system could only be used starting from 10 January. Even according to university rules, scholarships are paid by the tenth day of each month.

Students still have not received their scholarships to this day. On 12 January, they received a letter which said that

for reasons beyond their control, the university still cannot transfer the money.

The university added that “together with external partners, we are working hard to fix the problem”. What is more, all problems caused by this disruption are being addressed as a matter of priority.

When contacted by 24.hu, ELTE said on Thursday that, unfortunately, the problem has not been solved. They are still working on it.

No legal consequences for students

ELTE assured everyone that

in the case a student is unable to meet their payment obligations towards the university due to the late transfer, they will not take any legal action against them.

24.hu would have liked to ask HST about the root of the problem, but they have not received a reply by the time their article was published.

  1. The same happening with BME. Every year is the same story. And they did not even gave an estimation of when the scholarship will be transferred.
