Will Hungarians who escaped from the war return to Transcarpathia, Ukraine?
László Zubánics, the leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Ukraine (UMDSZ), answered the question of Blikk, a famous Hungarian daily. Meanwhile, 7,045 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Friday alone. Another 5,251 people from Ukraine crossed from Romania, the national police headquarters said.
According to Blikk, László Zubánics said that many Hungarians returned to Transcarpathia. That is because they have to plant and do agricultural work. He added that many Hungarians living in Ukraine are now past the first shock of the war.
To a question about daily air-raid alarms in Transcarpathia and how people deal with them, Zubánics replied that in the villages, there are no such systems. The advantage of living in a small settlement is that only those learn about them who have the relevant app on their smartphone. The most significant problem is that nobody knows where the rockets will cause harm, he added. It is impossible to locate what the target of a rocket launched, e.g. in Crimea, will be. Therefore,
citizens live in constant uncertainty.
Regarding the Hungarians returning to Transcarpathia, the chairman of the UMDSZ party said that Transcarpathia is safer than other parts of the country. Furthermore, they have to start agricultural work if they want to harvest later.
Even the war cannot change century-old traditions.
