World champion Hungarian skydiver between life and death: he hit the ground at 100 km/h

Not a single bone was left intact in the body of the skydiver who was involved in the accident during a jumping exercise. He is going to need a lot of blood.

A horrible accident

As Blikk reported, in the sunny weather yesterday, the paratroopers from Szolnok were performing their usual spring jump training when one of the young instructors had a terrible accident.

According to witnesses, Szabolcs Gál crashed into the ground of a meadow near Szolnok at a speed of 100 km/h on the afternoon of 25 April.

The world champion Sergeant Szabolcs Gál is an experienced jumper, but somehow, the cord that controls the canopy of the parachute slipped out of his hand. The man is now lying unconscious in hospital, between life and death. He is constantly visited by soldiers and police officers who give him blood.

Hospital

According to Blikk, his spine and the spinal cord might not be damaged, and there may still be a chance of recovery, but it is very likely that this was his last jump. As we can read in the article on the news site, soldiers, police officers, and civilians from Szolnok are queuing up in front of blood supply centres. Everybody is waiting to give blood, even Brigadier General József Koller, the commander of the 86th MH Szolnok Helicopter Base.

As far as Blikk knows, Sergeant Szabolcs Gál’s parachute opened, but the parachutists watching the jump said that the cord controlling the canopy might have somehow slipped out of his hand.

What happened?

If his parachute had not opened, he would not have survived the fall. He broke all his ribs, both femurs, knees, hips, several vertebrae, and he damaged his oesophagus, trachea, and kidneys. His skull was saved by the helmet he was required to wear when jumping, but he still suffered a severe concussion. Fortunately, initial medical reports suggest that the spinal cord may not be damaged, so the young sportsman may escape paralysis, but his recovery will still be long and difficult.

“He needs a lot of blood for medical interventions and his recovery. Fortunately, his blood type is such that anyone can donate blood to him. He will need blood for months, we ask everyone to help, he needs to live, the father of a one-year-old child, a great sportsman, a great soldier,”

a policeman who rushed to the hospital two blocks away from the ORFK (Országos Rendőrfőkapitányság, National Police Headquarters) Teve Street headquarters to donate blood told Blikk.
