Hungarian Ganz Machinery Works has signed an cooperation agreement with its Tunisian counterpart on upgrading Tunisia’s railways, the minister of foreign affairs and trade said in Tunis on Monday.
Before a meeting with Tunisian counterpart Nabil Amar, Péter Szijjártó noted that bilateral trade between the two countries last year hit a record high at over 270 million US dollars.
The Tunisian railway company has announced tenders worth hundreds of millions of euros to develop its rail network and carriages, Szijjártó noted. “Large Tunisian companies want to upgrade national and suburban lines as well as rail carriages with Hungarian partners,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hungary and Tunisia are also looking to boost cooperation in agriculture, the food industry, agricultural science and water purification, he added.
Szijjártó said Hungary will raise the number of higher-education scholarships offered to Tunisian students from 200 to 250, he said.
He is scheduled to meet Tunisian minister of trade Kalthoum Ben Rejeb on Wednesday.
