Orbán cabinet: the EU wants to keep Ukraine alive. This must not happen

The Hungarian government wants the war in Ukraine to end as soon as possible, regardless of its impact on Ukraine. Now, Orbán has sent an even stronger message: he wants to prevent it from being kept alive.

As we wrote earlier, the prime minister also defied the EU consensus on support for Ukraine last week by vetoing it again: PM Orbán vetoed the EU’s EUR ~20bn military support for Ukraine, but remained alone.

The Hungarian government has again made a shocking statement. They posted a message on their official Facebook page, stating what they think of the position taken by EU member states. The government’s assessment of what was agreed at the European Council meeting to help Ukraine is that the EU wants to…

  • …keep Ukraine alive,
  • …fund the one million-strong Ukrainian army and the Ukrainian state,
  • …put Ukraine on a fast track.

Then they wrote that

this must not happen.

Telex spotted this, but the government soon deleted the Facebook post. The picture was accompanied by the comment that the European Union is overreaching and this cannot end well economically.

ukraine alive must be stoped

The government’s communication stance has so far neglected any solidarity, as they believe that an invaded Ukraine should stand alone against the superior strength of the aggressor Russia, and if it fails, so be it, you should not help the weaker side in a war.

  1. “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31, NIV, often referred to as the Golden Rule, also found in Matthew 7:12:

    Religious Explanation

Moral Foundation – This verse encapsulates the essence of Christian ethics. It teaches believers that their actions toward others should be guided by the way they wish to be treated. This principle is not just about avoiding harm but actively doing good.

Rooted in Love – Jesus emphasized love as the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37-40). The Golden Rule reflects the command to “Love your neighbor as yourself,” showing that love is not just an emotion but an action.

Universal Principle – While found in Christianity, this teaching aligns with moral wisdom across cultures and religions. However, in Christianity, it is particularly tied to the love and grace exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Reflection of God’s Justice – The verse calls believers to embody fairness, kindness, and compassion, mirroring the character of God. It reminds Christians that their relationships should be governed by mercy and righteousness.

Practical Application – In daily life, this means being honest, forgiving, patient, and helpful, even when it is difficult. It challenges believers to rise above selfishness and treat others with dignity and respect.

  2. Tempest in a teapot.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was illegal; no question about it. It was also less than fully moral. Its prosecution of the war has been highly immoral at times, although there has been a lot of propaganda at play, too. I was a firm supporter of Ukraine in the early days and even donated to its defense fund.

However, it is now clear that there are shady forces involved in the story that want the war to continue indefinitely. It is not because they care about Ukraine’s sovereignty or territorial integrity, or hold steadfast to any high-minded principles of right and wrong, but because they, purely and simply, greatly profit from it financially as well as politically.

The war must end. Period. And yes, Ukraine will lose some of its territory. Happened countless times in human history to countless entities. It’ll continue happening. Get over it.

    • Tell that to orban and the millions that still suffer for the Trianon. Hungarians are so resentful

    • Perhaps rhetorical question. If you reward You-Know-Who for his aggression, and taking into consideration his entire nations economy is on a war footing, with a supportive population to boot… Will surrendering (part of) Ukraine be the end of it? No more conquests?

    • If it is ”clear that there are shady forces”, would you mind sharing what these forces are and how did you discover them? You know, provide some evidence, sources? Oh well, never mind – you don´t have any evidence anyway, just propaganda.

Truth is that there are no shady forces, just a brutal attack against a sovereign nation that is defending itself and needs continuous help to fight the monstrous attackers.

  3. Michael, finally a sensible and objective comment on your side. In my opinion, Europe is and shall help Ukraine to defend itself, however it is a nonsense that people keep dying. The keep on defence aim shall be to make a deal and close the war. If Mr. Putin will make an agreement and not respect it, then it will be surely WW3 caused by him.
With respect to shady forces, I believe Mr. Trump is showing the real “cards”: US didn’t care about Ukrainian people, they cared about the raw materials in Ukraine….
