BREAKING – Teacher stabbed at German school: suspect shot and arrested in Essen

On Friday morning, a shocking knife attack took place at a vocational college in Essen, Germany. According to police reports, an 18-year-old student stabbed his female teacher in the abdomen inside the school building located in the Nordviertel district. Emergency services rushed the victim to a university hospital, where she underwent immediate surgery. Although her injuries are severe, authorities later confirmed that her life is not in danger.

Large-scale police operation at German school

The stabbing triggered a massive police response. Armed officers, special task forces (SEK), and a helicopter were deployed to secure the school complex and search for the suspect, who initially fled the scene, Bild reports. Students were placed under lockdown inside classrooms, barricading doors as required during such emergencies. Many were later escorted to safety by heavily armed officers.

In total, around 1,700 students attend the college, but it remains unclear how many were present during the attack. Several students were treated for shock at the scene, with at least ten requiring medical assistance after either witnessing the assault or attempting to help the victim, Index writes.

The suspect arrested after shootout

According to German media, the suspect (an 18-year-old of Kosovar origin and a student at the school) was identified shortly after fleeing. Around 11 AM, police located him in a park approximately three kilometres away. When officers from the SEK attempted to question him, he reportedly charged at them with a knife. The police opened fire, wounding the suspect before taking him into custody.

He is currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision. Authorities are also investigating whether he deliberately targeted his teacher and whether there might have been additional threats to students or staff.

Reactions and ongoing investigation

Thomas Kufen, the mayor of Essen, arrived at the scene to assess the situation and expressed his shock over the attack. The police have stated that the investigation is still ongoing and that further details will be released once available. For now, there is no indication of broader danger to the public.
