Hungarian police have arrested a 33-year-old man suspected of killing a 29-year-old woman in Budapest’s 13th district, following a large-scale manhunt that ended in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
29-year-old woman found dead in her home
The victim was found dead in her flat in Angyalföld (in District XIII.) after friends alerted the authorities on Tuesday, saying they had been unable to contact her for several days, writes 24.hu.
Firefighters forced entry into the apartment, where police discovered the woman’s body. Initial examinations indicated foul play, prompting an investigation into homicide.
According to Hungarian media reports, the woman was a well-known fitness model and is believed to have suffered dozens of stab wounds. Investigators say the brutality of the attack suggests the crime was carried out deliberately and with extreme violence.

The suspect was arrested soon after
The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) launched an immediate manhunt after identifying a suspect. The operation concluded successfully at around 1 AM on Wednesday, when officers arrested the suspect in Budapest’s 19th district (Kispest). Police confirmed that the man is currently being questioned.
The Budapest Chief Prosecutor’s Office has stated that the suspect is believed to have committed premeditated murder for financial gain. According to investigators, the man reportedly told police that he had randomly selected his victim. He allegedly claimed he had recently lost his job and intended to obtain money through the crime.
Residents are shocked
Ferenc Rab, deputy spokesperson for the Budapest Chief Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed that prosecutors have filed a motion for the suspect’s pre-trial detention. A judge is expected to decide on the request within the coming days.
The case has shocked residents of the district, particularly due to the apparent randomness of the attack. Authorities have not released further details about the relationship — if any — between the suspect and the victim.
Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat and that the swift arrest was the result of intensive investigative work by the BRFK’s Life Protection Department. The investigation into the circumstances of the killing is continuing.
