Another Hungarian has been killed by Russian invaders in Ukraine, FM Szijjártó talks about “senseless war”

Another Hungarian from Transcarpathia has been killed in the fighting in Ukraine, where “Hungarians are dying senselessly in a completely senseless war”, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Friday.

The minister said in a statement that the Mukachevo (Munkács) branch of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Association (KMKSZ) had notified the government of the 97th Hungarian victim, a 48-year-old man, whose wife and two children were “now waiting in vain for him to return home”.

The family, he said, would be contacted and they would receive “the usual support” from Hungary. “This war must be ended immediately,” he declared, calling on Brussels “not to undermine peace efforts in the future”.

“Like Hungary, Brussels and all European countries should back American peace efforts wholeheartedly and with all their might,” Szijjártó said, adding that only those efforts could lead to the end of “completely senseless deaths”.

  1. What has Orban or Szijjarto ever done to pressure Putin to stop his war? Putin won’t stop. It’s as simple as that. The only way he will stop is when he is convinced that there is not way he can win. The only way you do that is by giving Ukraine all the support you possibly can. If you remove support and remove sanctions from Russia you embolden Putin and you give him incentive to go further. Fidesz has been working to prolong the war by undermining Ukraine and emboldening Putin.
