Azerbaijan and Vietnam are united by the long-standing friendly relations. These relations, initiated by national leaders Heydar Aliyev and Ho Chi Minh, have been strengthened and developed by Azerbaijanis living and working in Vietnam as well as by Vietnamese studying in Azerbaijan.

Collaborative content

Following the historic meeting between General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and President Ilham Aliyev during the latter’s official visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025, discussions were held on deepening cooperation between our countries in various fields, and new tasks were outlined for relevant institutions.

The civic activities of Azerbaijanis living in Vietnam and their loyalty to the historical bonds of friendship further strengthen the bridges between our countries and create excellent opportunities for expanding cooperation across various sectors.

In this context, the first large-scale meeting held in Hanoi with Azerbaijani communities of Vietnam as well as with Vietnamese who had previously studied in Baku, was also of great importance during the visit of Fuad Muradov, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

During the meeting it was noted that the visit of the Chairman of the State Committee to Vietnam marks a new stage in cooperation in the area of ​​diaspora activities.

The Committee’s chairman noted that Azerbaijanis living around the world always enjoy the attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev. He also highlighted the activities of Mehriban Aliyeva, First Vice President and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as the activities on raising awareness about Azerbaijani realities, preserving national and spiritual values and informing compatriots abroad.

The ongoing relationships with Vietnamese students studying in Azerbaijan, organization of their visits to Azerbaijan, and their contributions to strengthening humanitarian and public ties between the two countries were acknowledged with gratitude.

A broad information was shared in an interactive and productive environment about long-term projects and programs aimed at promoting the unity of the global Azerbaijani community.

The diaspora members expressed their thankfulness for the state’s support to the Azerbaijani community in Vietnam and displayed great interest in the Committee’s projects.

One of the important aspects of the visit was meetings held by the Committee’s chairman with Vietnamese officials, including Nguyen Trung Kien, Head of the External Relations Department of Vietnam’s Communist Party Central Committee; Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Foreign Minister; and Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. The main focus was on expanding cooperation in the diaspora sphere, exchanging experiences, and implementing joint projects.

During the meetings the parties emphasized that Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations are based on solid political and historical foundations underlining the role of the diaspora in developing these relations. Vietnamese officials expressed great interest in Azerbaijan’s systematic approach and successful model in diaspora activities, considering it a valuable experience that could be learned from.

They underscored that diaspora activities serve not only the communities abroad but also enhancing friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.

During the visit a ceremonial event dedicated to Azerbaijani film director Ajdar Ibrahimov, founder of the film school in Vietnam, was organized in Hanoi as well as a presentation of his book titled “What I Saw in Vietnam” was held. The book was translated into Vietnamese with the support of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the initiative of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Vietnam.

The event highlighted Ibrahimov’s significant role as a bridge in enriching Azerbaijani-Vietnamese cultural relations not only in cinema but overall, and assessed his legacy as a valuable example for future generations.

Among the memorable moments of the events was the presentation of national music to the local community. Azerbaijani musicians performed national music including mugham which was highly appreciated by the participants pleasing their taste.
