A top 50 Hungarian criminal was caught in Florida, a British man in Budapest
A Hungarian man wanted for several years and on the police top 50 list has been arrested in the United States, and a British man wanted on an international arrest warrant in Hungary, the National Investigation Bureau of the Hungarian Police Service (NNI) said on Police.hu.
Imre Ny. Roland Ny., 46, from Békéscsaba, who was arrested in Sarasota, Florida, has been wanted since 2019. The Metropolitan Court of Budapest first issued a national arrest warrant for him in 2020, a European arrest warrant in 2020 and an international arrest warrant in 2021. The statement did not say what the man had done.
After it was suspected that he was hiding in the United States, NNI targeting investigators contacted US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The extradition of the man, who was arrested on 21 July, will be decided by a US court at a later date, police said.
A day later, a 36-year-old British man was arrested and the UK issued an international wanted notice for him after he assaulted, strangled and robbed a prostitute in a London hotel in 2019. British authorities searched for the man for years before they received information that he might be in Hungary. UK counterparts, in cooperation with NNI detectives and the Hungarian Standby Police, arrested the man on 22 July in Budapest, in the VI district, police said.
