The Riverbank Precinct Pedestrian Bridge over the River Torrens in Adelaide was illuminated in red, white and green on 20 August to celebrate Hungary’s National Day.

The special illumination brought together a large number of members of South Australia’s Hungarian community, along with families and friends, for an evening of celebration and togetherness.

The event was honoured by the presence of The Hon Joe Szakacs MP, South Australia’s Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, who joined the community and addressed the gathering. Minister Szakacs, who has Hungarian heritage, was warmly welcomed by those attending.

Mr Attila Szabó, Honorary Consul of Hungary in South Australia, also attended and addressed the community.

As darkness fell, the Hungarian colours lit up the bridge and were reflected beautifully across the River Torrens, creating a spectacular sight for those gathered along the riverbank.

The evening included Hungarian food, community fellowship and an opportunity for Hungarian families and friends to celebrate their heritage together in the heart of Adelaide.

The successful celebration was made possible through the support and cooperation of the South Australian Department for Infrastructure and Transport, the Minister’s office, the Hungarian Consulate and the local Hungarian community.

For one special evening, the colours of Hungary proudly shone over the River Torrens. Éljen Magyarország!
