Agriculture minister revealed when food price caps would end in Hungary

food Hungarian government

The Hungarian government introduced food price caps in Hungary before the April general elections. Experts thought the government would end the measure after its fourth landslide victory. Instead, they extended it weeks ago to potatoes and eggs. István Nagy, Hungary’s agriculture minister, told Inforádió when the scheme would end.

He said people should regard the food price cap scheme as discounts. He added that next summer would probably see the end of the scheme because the war could not last forever. Mr Nagy acknowledged that retailers collect the cost of the caps in the prices of other products. He highlighted that the end of the war would trigger the start of a normalisation period and cease inflation.
