Almost 2,000 illegal immigrants caught in Csongrad county
Budapest, August 28 (MTI) – Almost 2,000 illegal immigrants were caught in Csongrad county on Thursday, Szabolcs Szenti, spokesman of the Csongrad County Police Headquarters has said.
The authorities caught 1,896 people who crossed the borders illegally, 375 children, the spokesman told MTI on Friday. Most of them were caught in the periphery of Roszke, near the Serbian border, and they declared themselves Syrian, Afghan or Pakistani nationals, said Szenti.
On Thursday, 2,410 people crossing the border illegally were taken in by police, and criminal proceedings were started against 11 people charged with human smuggling, the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) said on their website.
On Wednesday, police caught a record number of 2,958 illegal immigrants, among them 698 children, while on Tuesday 2,230 migrants crossed the border, of which 555 were children. On Monday, 1,930 people, among them 309 children, entered the country.
