Heat records broken on Monday
On 3 August, the temperature in southern Budapest dropped to just 26.8 degrees Celsius at dawn, surpassing the previous national record of 25.1C, measured in 2017, weather service HungaroMet reported on Tuesday.
In the afternoon, 39.6C was registered in northern Budapest, breaking the previous record of 38.7C measured in 2017.

Europe continues to be characterised by hot weather, with maximum temperatures exceeding 30C across much of the continent.

The cold front that passed north of Hungary two days ago temporarily helped ease the heat in Germany, Poland and Northern Europe, the service said.
Dunamenti Power Plant operating safely, minister says
