Arrests in shady guest worker scheme linked to PM Orbán’s brother, Áron Orbán

Change language:

Telex uncovered a tangled criminal affair in 2024 and 2025, revealing how certain Hungarian entrepreneurs promised a foreign labour recruiter that they could fix visa applications for hordes of workers, courtesy of the outgoing prime minister’s brother, Áron Orbán. They couldn’t deliver, naturally, leaving a trail of furious clients in their wake.

Visa applications with the help of Áron Orbán

The outlet recently reported that after a private complaint, authorities began investigating at a snail’s pace, with nothing much happening for ages. But following Tisza’s two-thirds election triumph, something stirred: after months of digging, the Central Chief Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement on Wednesday confirming four suspects, two of them now in custody. No names were named, but investigative journalist András Dezső says they can be deduced—Áron Orbán isn’t among them, though one of his close associates and chum is.

At the heart of it: three years ago, a man in his sixties told a Nepalese worker recruiter he could secure residence permits for work purposes for plenty of Nepalis—badly needed in Hungary within one or two years—thanks to his influential contacts. He pocketed a €17,000 advance, but every application was rejected. The three suspects divided up the cash anyway. The fourth submitted the bids via his labour-hire firm, which the Central Chief Prosecutor’s Office says was wrongly registered as a qualified employer by foul means.

So what ties this to Viktor Orbán’s departing brother, Áron? Dezső claims the high-level political fixer meant to smooth the visas was none other than Áron himself. Telex has evidence that Áron’s firm, Multi Shoot, wasn’t just linked to those involved but actively pitched in on procuring the visas.

Forged documents, illegal migrants

In October 2024, a recording leaked of Áron chatting with Viktor Orbán’s fixer Héjj Dávid in the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office about long-blocked visa applications he’d supposedly wangled. It earned the PM’s brother a swarm of enemies, some issuing threats. “They were doing business with the prime minister’s brother. You know how much that costs and where the bodies are buried,” came one retort.

Dezső unearthed another complaint where the complainant described forging documents on his boss’s orders to let foreigners in. He spoke of fake contracts that spirited dozens of third-country nationals westwards as illegal migrants. Multi Shoot booked their consular appointments too.
