UEFA Champions League Final 2026 is expected to bring enormous crowds, packed flights and sky-high hotel prices to Budapest later this month as thousands of supporters prepare to travel to the Hungarian capital for the showdown between Arsenal F.C. and Paris Saint-Germain F.C.

The final will be played on 30 May at the Puskás Aréna, and airlines are already increasing capacity to handle the surge in demand.

According to Hungarian outlets including Blikk and Budflyer, as well as a report by The Independent, Budapest Airport is expected to experience one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Airlines adding extra Budapest flights

Wizz Air announced that it will double capacity on routes from London Luton and Gatwick by operating additional flights to the Hungarian capital for Arsenal supporters travelling to the final.

Meanwhile, easyJet is adding another 750 seats on Budapest services in response to exceptional demand.

Earlier, both Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways reportedly upgraded some Budapest routes to wide-body aircraft for the match period, and further airline announcements are still expected in the coming days.

Despite rising global aviation costs, Wizz Air recently stated that passengers should not expect general ticket price increases beyond the event-related demand surge.

Hotel prices explode across Budapest

Accommodation prices in the capital have surged dramatically ahead of the final, with some hotel rooms costing more than 18 times their usual rates.

According to The Independent, a double room at Expo Tower Hotel on the night of the final costs around EUR 1,458, compared with just EUR 73 one day later.

At Bohem Art Hotel, prices reportedly jumped from EUR 113 to EUR 1,618 for the final night, while Hotel President increased rates from roughly GBP 104 to GBP 886.

Booking.com is already warning users that 99% of accommodation options in Budapest are unavailable for the match dates.

Football supporters’ groups criticised the pricing practices, though many admitted fans are still willing to pay enormous sums to attend one of Europe’s biggest sporting events.

Security forces preparing for possible disturbances

Authorities are also preparing for possible crowd trouble during the Champions League weekend.

The concerns intensified after riots erupted in Paris on Wednesday night following PSG’s qualification for the final. French police reportedly detained 127 people during overnight disturbances.

Hungarian law enforcement agencies are expected to implement heightened security measures throughout Budapest, particularly around fan zones, the airport, city centre nightlife areas and the stadium itself.

The final is likely to attract tens of thousands of international supporters, including many without match tickets.

How this could affect people living in Hungary

For residents of Budapest and people travelling through Hungary at the end of May, the Champions League final is likely to bring major disruptions alongside economic benefits.

Hotels, restaurants, bars and taxi services are expected to enjoy a tourism boom during the event weekend, potentially generating millions of euros for the local economy.

However, locals may also face crowded public transport, traffic congestion, airport delays and sharply increased accommodation prices across the city.

Travellers planning trips to Budapest around 30 May could encounter limited hotel availability and unusually expensive flights, even if they are not attending the football match.

Security measures and large crowds in entertainment districts may also significantly affect nightlife and transport across central Budapest during the final weekend.
