Budapest council working team head: Socialists, former Liberals responsible for corruption in metro 4 project
The metro 4 construction project was carried out under direct influence and control by the Socialist-Liberal leaders before 2010 and they are fully responsible for the irregularities and contracts that raise the suspicion of corruption, the head of a working team at the Budapest city government which investigated corruption linked to the project said on Thursday.
Lénárd Borbely, of the ruling coalition and the Mayor of Csepel district, told a press conference that the working team had unanimously approved his report on metro corruption.
Suspicious public procurements, irregular contracts circumventing public procurement, the selection of companies and the activities that aimed to influence political campaigns were the responsibility of the Socialists and the Alliance of Free Democrats (erstwhile liberal coalition partner of the Socialists) in moral, financial and criminal terms, he added.
